Senior Quality Engineer
Subway
About the role
We are looking for a Senior Quality Engineer to drive quality throughout the software development lifecycle by partnering with Product Managers, Software Engineers, and Architects to embed quality from the start rather than serve as a gatekeeper at release. You will design and maintain automated tests across unit, API, integration, and UI layers using tools like Playwright, Cypress, or Selenium, champion a right-sized test pyramid strategy, and leverage AI-powered tools for test generation, defect analysis, and coverage optimization. The role requires 4+ years of quality engineering experience with hands-on AI-assisted testing tool experience.
What you will do
- Partner closely with Product Managers, Software Engineers, and Architects to understand product functionality, technical design, customer workflows, and acceptance criteria, ensuring quality is built into every stage of SDLC.
- Define and execute a product quality strategy that aligns with business priorities, engineering practices, and release objectives.
- Design, develop, and maintain automated tests across unit, API, integration, and UI layers, applying the appropriate level of testing based on product risk and architecture.
- Champion the concept of a right-sized test pyramid by driving quality through the most effective mix of unit, service, integration, and end-to-end tests rather than relying heavily on UI automation.
- Collaborate with development teams to understand code changes, code coverage, and application architecture to determine where automated tests provide the greatest value.
- Build and maintain scalable, resilient automation frameworks that integrate seamlessly into CI/CD pipelines to enable continuous testing and rapid feedback.
- Promote shift-left quality practices by participating in backlog refinement, sprint planning, design discussions, and code reviews to identify quality risks early.
- Leverage AI-powered tools throughout the software development and testing lifecycle, including test case generation, automation development, defect analysis, risk identification, and coverage optimization, while validating AI-generated outputs for accuracy and effectiveness.
- Identify opportunities to reduce manual effort through intelligent automation and process optimization while improving product reliability.
- Partner with engineering teams to investigate defects, perform root cause analysis, and implement preventative quality improvements.
Must haves
- 4+ years of experience in software testing, quality engineering, or automation roles.
- Proficiency with automation tools and frameworks (e.g., Selenium, Cypress, Playwright, REST-assured, Postman, or similar).
- Ability to read, write, or debug test code or scripts (e.g., Java, JavaScript/TypeScript, Python, C#).
- Understanding of REST APIs and service-based architectures.
- Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines and continuous-testing concepts.
- Hands-on experience with AI-assisted testing tools and practices required.
- Upper-Intermediate English level.
Nice to haves
- Passionate about writing clean, modern, maintainable, & highly-performant code.
- Pro-active ability and a self-starter attitude to troubleshoot and solve problems.
- Experience working in an Agile environment leveraging remote communication tools.
- Strong communication skills with excellent interpersonal effectiveness.
Perks
- Growth without limits: build your skills through mentorship, internal TechTalks, challenging projects, and a dedicated annual learning budget

Have any questions?
What is the work format and schedule?
We are a remote-first company, so all our positions are remote. Schedules are flexible, but the main requirement is to have an overlap with your client’s schedule to ensure smooth collaboration. Specific details depend on the project and are discussed during the interview process.
What level of English is required?
We look for Upper-Intermediate (B2) proficiency or higher. Since you will be collaborating with international teams and global clients (including Fortune 500 companies), English is a part of your daily work.
Does AgileEngine provide work equipment?
It depends on your location. We provide equipment in Ukraine, Poland, Argentina, Colombia, Mexico, Brazil, Guatemala, Portugal, Spain, and India. In the USA, equipment is usually provided by the client; otherwise, you will be expected to use your own setup.
What opportunities for professional growth do you offer?
We support continuous growth through personalized development paths tailored to each expert. Also, you can expect:
- An annual learning and development budget
- Internal workshops, tech talks, and mentorship programs
- Opportunities to switch projects or grow into new roles over time
What does a typical team look like, and what tools do you use?
Teams vary by project, but you’ll usually work with a mix of experts across different fields, along with a delivery or project manager who supports collaboration and onboarding.
For day-to-day work, teams commonly use tools like Jira and Google Workspace, along with communication platforms such as Google Chat. Depending on the client, you may also work with Slack, Confluence, Notion, or similar tools.
