About the role

We are looking for a Python Developer to build and scale an event-driven integration platform, including APIs, resilience mechanisms, and AI-facing integrations.

The mandatory requirements are experience with Apache Kafka, CI/CD pipelines, 4+ years of production experience with Python, event-driven and asynchronous architecture, REST API design with OpenAPI, and strong English communication skills.

Must haves

  • At least 4 years of production experience with Python — typed, tested, packaged services and APIs, not just scripting — with solid development fundamentals: data structures, design patterns, concurrency and asynchronous programming.
  • Solid grasp of event-driven and asynchronous architecture: messaging, durable logs, at-least-once delivery, idempotency, retries, dead-letter queues, replay and backpressure.
  • REST API design and practical OpenAPI experience; willingness to work to AsyncAPI contracts.
  • Apache Kafka or an equivalent streaming platform.
  • GenAI-assisted development — you actively use AI coding agents in your daily workflow, or are demonstrably keen to adopt them. We build with these tools and expect everyone in the squad to be fluent in them, including the judgement to know when their output cannot be trusted.
  • Testing discipline (pytest, contract testing), CI/CD pipelines, Linux, Git and containers.
  • Methodical problem-solving and debugging across distributed systems.
  • Strong written and verbal communication — you can explain a trade-off (consistency versus availability, synchronous versus asynchronous) to a global audience and defend it in architectural review.
  • A genuine desire to keep learning, and to evaluate new tools thoroughly rather than adopt them uncritically.
  • Upper-intermediate English level.

Nice to haves

  • Building GenAI-facing products: agent skills, tool-calling protocols, retrieval pipelines, or LLM API integration.
  • Integration experience with large commercial SaaS platforms, particularly ITSM or ITAM products.
  • Relational and NoSQL databases; GraphQL; OAuth2 and enterprise identity integration.
  • ITSM/ITAM domain knowledge — incident, change, service request, configuration and asset management.
  • Experience decommissioning legacy integrations and running deprecation programmes.

What you will do

  • Build and evolve the backbone — a Python service handling an observation / intent / outcome event taxonomy, a durable replayable event log, and workers that translate events into operations on the ITSM platform.
  • Design and maintain contract-first interfaces using OpenAPI and AsyncAPI.
  • Build the correlation and decision layer that turns incoming signals into the right ITSM actions — deduplicated, correlated, and applied exactly once.
  • Design and deliver the platform's resilience mechanisms — keeping the service usable, and consumer requests safe and recoverable, when the upstream vendor platform is degraded or unavailable.
  • Build multiple access patterns over a single async core — fire-and-forget, submit-and-poll, webhook and stream subscriptions, and bulk/micro-batch ingest — so each consumer integrates at the level its use case demands.
  • Develop the event type registry and self-service onboarding, so consuming teams register their own event types, handlers and subscriptions.
  • Build GenAI-facing integration surfaces — agent skills and tool-calling interfaces that let AI agents discover and consume the platform safely.
  • Modernise and migrate legacy integrations onto the new platform through managed deprecation paths, without disrupting existing consumers.
  • Own quality end to end: code review, coding standards, contract and integration testing, observability, and production support of what you ship.
  • Take part in squad ceremonies and customer-facing meetings; work directly with consuming teams to understand their requirements and constraints.
  • Autonomously take ownership of a component or an entire project, and work with the squad's technical architect to document significant decisions as architecture decision records.

FAQ

Have any questions?

What is the work format and schedule?

We are a remote-first company, so all our positions are remote. Schedules are flexible, but the main requirement is to have an overlap with your client’s schedule to ensure smooth collaboration. Specific details depend on the project and are discussed during the interview process.

What level of English is required?

We look for Upper-Intermediate (B2) proficiency or higher. Since you will be collaborating with international teams and global clients (including Fortune 500 companies), English is a part of your daily work.

Does AgileEngine provide work equipment?

It depends on your location. We provide equipment in Ukraine, Poland, Argentina, Colombia, Mexico, Brazil, Guatemala, Portugal, Spain, and India. In the USA, equipment is usually provided by the client; otherwise, you will be expected to use your own setup.

What opportunities for professional growth do you offer?

We support continuous growth through personalized development paths tailored to each expert. Also, you can expect:

  • An annual learning and development budget
  • Internal workshops, tech talks, and mentorship programs
  • Opportunities to switch projects or grow into new roles over time

What does a typical team look like, and what tools do you use?

Teams vary by project, but you’ll usually work with a mix of experts across different fields, along with a delivery or project manager who supports collaboration and onboarding.

For day-to-day work, teams commonly use tools like Jira and Google Workspace, along with communication platforms such as Google Chat. Depending on the client, you may also work with Slack, Confluence, Notion, or similar tools.
